Mass in flow – Industrial pumps and conveying systems
Pumps are hydrostatic or hydrodynamic machines whose task is to create pressure differences within fluids in order to generate a specific media flow per unit of time. For this purpose, pumps add energy to a system in the form of flow rate “Q” and delivery head/pressure “H”.
A basic distinction is made between positive displacement pumps and centrifugal pumps (e.g. axial, diagonal/semi-axial and radial).
Positive displacement pumps are differentiated according to their delivery characteristics: Oscillating displacement pumps (e.g. piston and diaphragm pumps) and rotating displacement pumps (e.g. external gear, internal gear, rotary lobe, screw spindle, eccentric screw, vane cell and peristaltic pumps).
The liquid ring, side channel and peripheral impeller pumps, which primarily displace the pumped media but also use centrifugal forces for this purpose, represent a hybrid of the above-mentioned pump principles.
