Our company history
HEMPEL over the years
1950
Hempel electrical engineering
HEMPEL Elektromaschinenbau was founded in 1950 by Erich and Hilde Hempel as a repair workshop for electric motors in Willich. However, HEMPEL’s company history began in 1849, long before the invention of the electric motor, as a civil engineering company. Times are changing, and so are our products. With a constantly growing customer base, the repair workshop developed into a comprehensive industrial maintenance provider for electrical machines with a winding and turning shop.
1989
HEMPEL Antriebstechnik GmbH
In 1989, the company was expanded to include HEMPEL Antriebstechnik GmbH, which specializes in the sale of new or used motors, generators and other equipment for industrial use.
Since 1989, the family business has been managed in the 2nd generation by Dipl.-Ing. Klaus M. Hempel, a dedicated engineer and experienced maintenance specialist. His aim is to continue to develop innovative solutions for our customers in the area of conflict between people, organization and technology.

1990
ELMA-ZEITZ Elektromaschinenbau GmbH
After German reunification, ELMA-ZEITZ Elektromaschinenbau GmbH was integrated into the HEMPEL Group in 1990. The company was founded in 1935 by Ing. Erich Emde as an engine repair workshop in eastern Germany and offers today a wide range of engine repairs, maintenance and services for the regional market.
1995
HEMPEL Technical Diagnostics
Over the last 20 years, innovations in technical diagnostics have led to the increased use of methods for testing and monitoring engines. This is why the HEMPEL Technical Diagnostics competence center was founded in 1995, specializing in condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, reliability-centred maintenance and ProActive Maintenance.
2017
HEMPEL Industrial Engineering GmbH
With the expansion of foreign business outside the EU, the HEMPEL Industrial Engineering GmbH competence center was founded in 2017. As a further member of the group, HEMPEL Industrial Engineering GmbH realizes customer-specific drive technology solutions with engineering and project management. The commitment is to the quality concept of “Made in Germany”. Beyond the technical solution, the concepts fit the local conditions as well as the people who use them.
2019
ELMO-Voss GmbH
At the beginning of 2019, Klaus M. Hempel took over ELMO-VOSS GmbH, which is now also based at Siemensring. As an authorized DEMAG Cranes & Components workshop, VOSS supplies all DEMAG spare parts, including those from previous years, new or reconditioned and in top condition.
Until today
HEMPEL UnternehmensGruppe
Today, the HEMPEL group of companies “HEMPEL Industrial Maintenance” comprises ten competence centers. The increasing challenges in the industry in the field of renewable energies and environmentally conscious production have led to the establishment of further competence centers such as control technology and pump technology.
