Retro fit refers to the updating or expansion of existing systems and equipment, usually of an older and no longer manufactured nature, in order to extend their service life, increase production volumes or product quality, improve system efficiency (e.g. through energy savings), meet legal requirements (e.g. emission reduction, occupational safety), ensure the availability of spare parts or embed old machines in modern IT environments (in the context of Industry 4.0). For existing systems, a retrofit can be more advantageous than a new build, as existing systems can be brought up to date by replacing outdated components and integrating new, contemporary technological advances. The advantage for the system operator lies in the modernization of the system, which significantly increases productivity at comparatively lower costs compared to the purchase of a new system. The solid basic structure of the machine remains intact and, in the case of large machines, the high costs of building new foundations are eliminated. In addition, a retrofit makes it possible to maintain the status quo for a system that may no longer receive a new permit.<\/p>\n
